In the applied concentration menthol dilates blood vessels and improves blood circulation in the skin, causing a cooling sensation accompanied by a mild anesthetic effect. By stimulating the nerves for the perception of cold, while simultaneously depressing the nerves for the perception of pain, menthol first causes a sensation of cold, followed later by a sensation of warmth.

Camphor is the main ingredient of essential oil of the camphor tree (lat. Cinnamomum camphora) and is traditionally used for rheumatic pain, myalgia and neuralgia. Topical application of camphor helps to reduce pain of various origins - camphor has analgesic and anesthetic effects. In concentrations higher than 3%, camphor, applied either alone or together with other rubefacients, stimulates nerve endings in the skin and causes an analgesic effect, masking moderate to severe pain.

In addition to menthol and camphor, Khan antirheumatic cream gel is also incorporated eucalyptus and clove essential oils which promote circulation at the site of application, exhibit analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects and thereby additionally contribute to the relief of complaints
