One milliliter of Operil 0.05% nasal solution contains 500mcg/ml of oxymetazoline hydrochloride (0.05% solution).
Content of auxiliary substances:  
One milliliter of Operil 0.05% nasal solution contains: benzolkonium chloride: sodium hydroxide; sodium dihydrogen phosphate, dihydrate; sodium hydrogen phosphate, dihydrate; purified water.

Composition:
One milliliter of Operil 0.05% solution for the nose contains 500mcg/ml of oxymetazoline-chiarochloride (0.05% solution).

Pharmaceutical form and content:

What is Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% and what is it for?

  • Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% is intended only for adults and children older than 7 years.
  • Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% contains oxymetazoline. Oxymetazoline is used as a nasal decongestant. Due to the constriction of arterioles, it reduces the swelling of the nasal mucosa and the runny nose. It establishes freer breathing through the nose and alleviates the accompanying signs and symptoms of the common cold. Operil starts working within a few minutes and its effect lasts 6 to 8 hours.
  • Oxymetazoline also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
  • Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% has an antiviral effect on certain viruses that mainly cause respiratory diseases.

How does the drug Operil, solution, 0.05% work?
Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% works by reducing swelling of the nasal mucosa and nasal discharge. It starts working within a few minutes and its effect lasts for 6 to 8 hours.

When is Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% used?
Operil nasal solution, 0.05% is used for:

  • rhinitis due to the common cold
  • allergic rhinitis
  • rhinosinusitis
  • inflammation of the middle ear
  • surgery (endoscopic surgery) in the nose to reduce swelling and bleeding

What you must read before using the medicine:
Warn the doctor if you are taking other medicines, have a chronic disease, a metabolic disorder, are hypersensitive to medicines or have had allergic reactions to some of them.

When you must not take the medicine:
You must not use Operil, nasal solution, 0.05%:

  • if you know that you are hypersensitive to oxymetazoline or any other ingredient of the medicine
  • if you have dry inflammation of the nasal mucosa with scales (atrophic inflammation)

Use the drug Operil, solution, 0.05% with special caution:

  • if you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, monoamine oxidase MAO inhibitors (medicines used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and depression) or other medicines that can lead to an increase in blood pressure
  • if you have elevated intraocular pressure, especially angle-closure glaucoma
  • if you have severe cardiovascular disease (eg coronary heart disease, hypertension), acute heart disease or asthma caused by heart disease (cardiac asthma)
  • if you have a pheochromocytoma of the adrenal medulla)
  • if you have porphyria (hereditary blood disease with symptoms of increased sensitivity of the skin to light, the appearance of bleeding scabs on the skin, dark discoloration of the skin, increased lethargy, dark-red discoloration of the urine, sometimes with nerve damage and partial or complete loss)
  • if you have had surgery to remove your pituitary gland (pituitary gland)
  • if you have metabolic disorders (eg hyperthyroidism, diabetes)
  • if you have an enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy)

In all the cases mentioned above, the drug should only be used under the supervision of a doctor.

Warnings and precautions:
Operil should not be used in children younger than 7 years old. Prolonged or excessive use of this drug should be avoided.

Taking Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% with food or drinks:
Operil, solution, 0.05% can be used regardless of meals.

Application in pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Before you start taking any medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The use of Operil, solution, 0.05% during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended, except on the advice of a doctor. If you become pregnant during therapy, consult your doctor.

Influence on psychophysical abilities when driving a motor vehicle and machines:
Provided that it is used in recommended doses, Operil®, nasal solution, 0.05% does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and machines.
What you need to know about the excipients contained in the drug Operil, nasal solution, 0.05 %:
Operil contains benzalkonium chloride, which can cause narrowing of the airways (bronchospasm) or skin reactions.

What you need to watch out for if you take other medicines:
Please note that this information may also apply to medicines you are no longer taking, as well as medicines you plan to take in the future. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
When using other medicines at the same time, it is recommended to consult a doctor or pharmacist before using Operil nasal solution, 0.05%.
When oxymetazoline is absorbed by oral administration or due to overdose, its effect on blood pressure may be increased in patients taking tricyclic antidepressants or maprotiline at the same time. A hypertensive crisis may even occur in patients taking MAO inhibitors at the same time.

How Operil nasal solution, 0.05% is used:
If you think that the drug Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% has too weak or too strong an effect on your body, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Adults and children over 7 years of age: one to two sprays of Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% in each nostril two to three times a day; the application of this drug should be performed in accordance with the procedure for using the spray.
When patients are treated with Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% alone, they should not do so for more than five to seven days continuously. If the symptoms do not go away, you should consult a doctor. The doctor can prescribe longer therapy. The nasal spray is intended for one person only. If the same vial is used by several patients, it is likely that there will be a spread of infection.

If you have taken more medicine than you should:
If you have taken a larger dose of Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% than you should, talk to your doctor or pharmacist immediately!
After giving excessive doses, a transient burning sensation in the nose, dry nasal mucosa and sneezing may occur. Insomnia, headache, tachycardia or bradycardia, increase in blood pressure may also occur. These symptoms resolve when the dose is reduced. In case you or your child accidentally swallows this medicine, seek medical advice immediately.

If you forgot to take Operil, solution, 0.05%:
Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose!
If you forget to give Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% it is recommended to take it as soon as possible without changing the dose or dosage regimen.

What happens if you suddenly stop taking Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% :
No known effects.

Side effects of the drug:
The drug Operil, like other drugs, can have side effects, although they do not necessarily occur in everyone.
The assessment of side effects is based on the following frequency information:

  • Very common (more than 1 in 10 treated patients):
  • Common (less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 treated patients)
  • Uncommon (less than 1 in 100 but more than 1 in 1000 treated patients)
  • Rare (less than 1 in 1000 but more than 1 in 10000 treated patients)
  • Very rare (less than 1 in 10,000 patients), frequency not known

Disorders of the heart and blood vessels:
Uncommon: slower heart rate.
Rare: increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, feeling of abnormal heart rate (palpitations)

Nervous system disorders:
Rarely: dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, irritability, sleep disorder in children, insomnia

Respiratory system disorders:
Occasionally: sneezing, dryness and irritation of the nasal mucosa, mouth and throat.
Prolonged use may produce reactive niperemia of the nasal mucosa (medicinal rhinitis).
The frequency is not known.

General disorders:
Rare: transient redness at the site of drug application (reactive hyperemia), headache, nausea, rash and visual disturbances.

Administration of the drug for a longer period of time than recommended may lead to a reduced effect of the drug and/or repeated congestion (nasal congestion).
If any side effect becomes serious or you notice any side effect that is not listed in this guide, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage:
Keep Operil, nasal solution, 0.05% out of the reach of children. Store the medicine at a temperature of up to 25°C.
