1. What is the drug Canesten and what is it intended for
The drug Canesten contains the active substance clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called
antifungals (medicines to treat fungal infections).
Canesten cream is used to treat fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by dermatophytes,
yeasts, molds and other fungi, such as:
- fungal infections of the feet ("athlete's foot"),
- fungal infections of the hands,
- fungal infections of the trunk, limbs and folds of the skin,
- fungal infections of the groin,
- fungal skin infection called pityriasis (Pityriasis versicolor),
- fungal skin infections caused by Candida fungi; in women, vulva infection (pubic
lips), and in men, inflammation of the glans (glans) and prepuce (the skin that covers the tip of the penis
organs) caused by yeasts (candida-vulvitis and candida-balanitis).
2. What you need to know before you use Canesten
Canesten should not be used:
 if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to clotrimazole or any of the auxiliary substances of this medicine
(listed in section 6). In this case, you should consult your doctor before use.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Canesten.
Keep the medicine out of the reach and sight of children.
Avoid contact with eyes. Do not swallow.
Canesten may reduce the effectiveness and safety of latex products such as condoms and diaphragms.
when applied in the genital area (women: labia and area around the vulva; men: glans and skin that
covers the tip of the genital organ). This effect is temporary and occurs only during treatment.
Other medicines and Canesten
It is not known that there may be an interaction between the drug Canesten and other drugs.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or may take any
what other medicines.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, contact your doctor or
pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy:
It is advised to avoid the use of clotrimazole during the first three months of pregnancy.
Breastfeeding:
During treatment with this drug, breastfeeding must be stopped.

Driving vehicles and operating machines
Canesten has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Canesten contains cetostearyl alcohol
This medicine contains cetostearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions (eg contact dermatitis).
3. How to administer the drug Canesten
Always use this medicine exactly as stated in these instructions or as explained to you by your doctor

To ensure a complete cure, depending on the indication, the treatment should last as long as it is needed
the indication listed below (see "Duration of therapy"), even if the symptoms disappear.
Duration of therapy
Fungal infections of the feet, hands, trunk, folds of the skin for 3 to 4 weeks
Infections called Pityriasis versicolor from 1 to 3 weeks
Fungal infections of the genitals from 1 to 2 weeks
You must contact your doctor if there is no improvement after 4 weeks of treatment.
Canesten is intended for external use only:
Do not put the cream in your mouth or swallow it.
If you accidentally swallow the cream, contact your doctor or the emergency department of the nearest hospital immediately.
If the cream accidentally gets into your eyes or mouth, rinse immediately with water and contact your doctor.
If you forget to use Canesten
In case you forgot to apply the medicine, apply the cream as soon as possible and continue the treatment as before.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you suddenly stop using Canesten
If you want to completely cure the yeast infection and prevent its recurrence, you must not stop the treatment
without consulting a doctor. If you do, you run the risk of the disease recurring. Treatment does not
you can stop immediately after the disappearance of the symptoms of the infection, but you must continue with it as it is
prescribed in this manual.
You can help treat the infection by following some simple tips:
 Although the infected areas are itchy, try not to scratch them. Scratching will damage the surface of the skin and cause
further spread of infection.
 Keep the affected skin areas clean.
 Take special care to dry the skin, but avoid excessive rubbing.

 Do not share towels, bath mats, etc. with others to avoid spreading the infection to them.
 Always wash your hands after applying the medicine to infected areas to prevent the spread of infection.
If you have athlete's foot:
 Dry the skin between the toes completely.
 Wash your socks and tights thoroughly in warm water to remove any dead skin.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Adverse effects have been identified during the post-marketing period of clotrimazole. Since these

Immune system disorders: allergic reactions (sudden, short-term loss of consciousness, drop in blood pressure,

Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: blisters, discomfort/pain, swelling, redness, irritation, skin peeling, itching,
rash, stinging/burning.
If side effects appear for the first time or if the condition worsens, stop using it

If you experience any unwanted reaction, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist.
This includes any possible side effects that are not listed in this guide. By signing up

5. How to store Canesten
Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
You must not use the medicine Canesten after the expiry date indicated on the package after "Expiry until".
The expiration date refers to the last day of the specified month.
This medicine does not require special storage conditions.
Shelf life after first opening: 3 months if the medicine is stored at a temperature of up to 25 °C.

What Canesten contains
 The active substance is clotrimazole.
1 g of cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole.
 Auxiliary substances are: benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, octyldodecanol, polysorbate
60, sorbitan stearate, water, purified.
What Canesten looks like and contents of the pack
White cream.
The inner packaging of the drug is an aluminum tube with a membrane and a PE screw cap.
The outer packaging is a collapsible cardboard box containing 1 tube with 20 g of cream and an instruction manual.
